Man in custody after climbing onto roof to avoid arrest

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have a suspect in custody after he fled onto a roof to avoid arrest Thursday morning.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have a suspect in custody after he fled onto a roof to avoid arrest Thursday morning.

Police have identified the suspect as 35-year-old Tyrone Singleton. He was wanted for domestic violence related charges.

 

 

According to CMPD, the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team responded to a residence on Houg Street in an attempt to find a suspect with armed robbery warrants.

When the team arrived, they said the suspect fled to Honeywood Avenue and Rozelles Ferry Road in northwest Charlotte and climbed on the roof of a building to avoid being arrested.

Detectives and CMPD officers were on scene around 10:20 a.m. speaking to the suspect in an attempt to safely take him into custody.

After about an hour, police went up to the roof.

 

 

Singleton was taken into custody.

 

Singleton faces warrants for assault on a female, kidnapping and several other domestic related charges.
