CMPD charges 70 in overnight checkpoint

CMPD issued 70 citations as part of an overnight safety checkpoint on North Tryon Street.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police issued 70 citations during an overnight safety checkpoint in north Charlotte, officials said Friday.

According to CMPD, the checkpoint was located in the 9800 block of North Tryon Street between 11 p.m. Thursday and 3 a.m. Friday. Twenty-one officers worked the checkpoint, which included the mobile breath testing bus on site.

The charges varied from DWI to vehicle registration violations, according to CMPD.

  • Suspended License - 12
  • No License - 19
  • Tag/Inspection Violation - 16
  • Child Safety Seat - 1
  • Open Container - 3
  • Other Traffic Violations - 9
  • Drug Charges - 1
  • Arrest Warrant - 1
  • Gun Seizures/Charges - 1
  • Other Criminal Charges - 1
