Man charged with Charlotte's 64th homicide

An 18-year-old man was charged with the 64th homicide of 2017 overnight.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a man in connection with the city's 64th homicide late Tuesday. 

According to CMPD, officers responded to a reported shooting in the 1400 block of Rosetta Street around 3 a.m. Tuesday. When officers arrived at the scene, they found 26-year-old Derrick Banner inside a vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Banner was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities.

Detectives were able to identify Montavious Sanchez Berry, 18, as a suspect in Banner's murder. Detectives found Berry around 11 p.m. and arrested him. Berry was charged with murder, armed robbery, and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
