CMPD: Protester smeared blood on officers

A local woman is under arrest, accused of smearing blood on police officers during the September protests.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A woman has been arrested after allegedly smearing blood on officers who were standing guard in the police line.

Police say it happened when the protests and riots took over uptown after a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer shot and killed a man.

It was a day after CMPD shot and killed Keith Scott in a parking lot of a University-area apartment complex. Police say he was armed and posed a threat. The family says he had a book and was waiting for his son to come home from school.

Then a civilian-on-civilian shooting during the protests, which quickly turned into riots, as some agitators torched the city, attacked people and looted stores.

While people were face to face with the police line, and a photographer captured an image of a woman with her blood covered hands in the officers' faces.

Elise Greene is charged with assault on a government officer and vandalism after CMPD says she smeared blood on the officers and their equipment intentionally.

NBC Charlotte reached out to the suspect via social media for her side of the story tonight - but she hasn't commented yet.
