Murder suspect considered 'armed and dangerous' turns himself in to CMPD, charged

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A murder suspect who Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department considered armed and dangerous has turned himself in Wednesday afternoon.

Detectives with the CMPD’s Homicide Unit have charged William Vandale Medlin, 42, with the murder of Lucas Baldwin. He is now in police custody after arriving at the Sheriff's Office to turn himself in.

Detectives previously identified Medlin as a suspect and obtained warrants for murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The silver Range Rover that Medlin was last seen driving was recovered in Metro Division on Tuesday.

Medlin has a previous criminal record including assault on a female, assault by strangulation, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of marijuana, burglary and felonious restraint.
