Authorities asking for help finding missing 'endangered' woman

HIGHLANDS, N.C. -- The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert for a woman believed to be suffering from dementia (or another type of cognitive impairment) early Thursday morning.

Authorities are asking the public to be on the lookout for 74-year-old Charlotte Carter Merry. She is described as a having blue eyes, blond hair, standing at 5'6" and weighing around 100 lbs.

Merry was last seen at 60 Moore Wood Circle in Highlands wearing a colorful shirt with a yellow scarf and green pants. Authorities are unsure of her direction of travel.

Anyone with information or who believes they've seen Merry is asked to call Detective A. Holland at 828-369-3393.

UPDATE: Authorities cancelled the Silver Alert for Merry Thursday around 11 a.m.
