Cracking down on online predators

A Lincolnton Police detective continues his hunt for sex predators who are preying on children online.

LINCOLNTON, N.C. -- The Lincolnton Police Department is continuing its two-year operation to arrest and convict individuals who are soliciting minors for sex online.

Detective Brent Heavner has spearheaded the operation, which has led to the arrests and convictions of almost 50 people.

"The problem's growing," Det. Heavner said. "The soliciting online is growing. The child pornography industry's growing."

Lieutenant Jason Munday said all but one of Detective Heavner's arrests resulted in a conviction.

"If we prevent one child from being abused, then it's a worthwhile operation," Lt. Munday said.

He's since joined a federal task force to combat online child sex crimes.
