Gastonia Fire: Single family home intentionally set on fire

Crews were dispatched to this home on the 400 block of South Emerson Street before 5:30 a.m. Saturday.

GASTONIA, N.C. -- The Gastonia Fire Department believe that a single family home was intentionally set on fire early Saturday morning.

Firefighters responded to an active fire in at the 400 block of S. Emerson Street on Saturday morning around 5:15 a.m. When they arrived, there was fire and smoke visible coming from the side of a single story home.

Gastonia firefighters made entry to the home and encountered heavy fire in the front of the structure, which was extinguished in approximately 10 minutes with no injuries reported.

At the time of the fire, the house was vacant.

An estimated $20,000 in damages was caused by the fire.

The Gastonia Fire Investigation Task Force has ruled that the fire was intentionally set. If anyone has any information on the fire, please call Gaston County Crime Stoppers at 704-861-8000.
