Police: Teen Caitlyn Frisina found safe in New York

Caitlyn Frisina has been located and is safe in New York, according to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office. More details to come soon.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office confirmed Friday that 17-year-old Caitlyn Frisina was found safe in New York.

A missing child alert was previously issued for her by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Police initially said she was believed to be with Rian Rodriguez, a 27-year-old soccer coach for Fort White High School.

Sometime after 4 p.m. Friday, a New York state police officer spotted a red Mercury with a Florida license plate in north Syracuse near Taft Road and Route 11. He stopped the car to find the two inside the vehicle. Rodriguez was taken into custody without incident and Caitlyn was detained. Her family has been notified.

Rodriguez has not been arrested or charged at this time, but he is cooperating with the investigators and is currently being questioned, according to New York state police.

"We would like to thank everyone who helped in the case with a special thanks to the NY State Police and the US Marshals Service. The Marshals Service was instrumental in locating the pair and was diligent in investigating leads throughout the US leading to their discovery," according to a statement from the sheriff's office.

Florida law enforcement is on its way to New York.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office will hold a news conference at 2 p.m. Monday for more details.
