Watch out for this email phishing scam posing as Matthews Police

MATTHEWS, N.C. -- A local police department is putting residents on alert after someone sent out emails pretending to be a police officer.

Matthews Police said people have been receiving emails appearing as if they came from the police department or the town asking residents to pay an overdue invoice.

Matthews Police said they will NEVER email about money owed. If you do receive an email asking for money, authorities warn you not to click the link, just call police right away at 704-847-4411.
