Domestic dispute leads to shooting, deputies say

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. – An Iredell County woman is in jail after deputies say she shot her boyfriend following an argument on Saturday night.

According to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a domestic disturbance that led to a shooting in the 100 block of Kite Lane in Statesville just before midnight Saturday. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a man suffering from two gunshot wounds to his lower body. The victim was taken to the hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

When detectives arrived on the scene, they were interviewed multiple witnesses, including the suspect, identified as 41-year-old Hazal Lenaor Hodge. Deputies that searched the home discovered a firearm, ammunition and multiple spent shell casings, police said.

Investigators said the victim and Hodge were drinking and hanging out with friends earlier in the evening. Police say that at some point during the event, the couple got into an argument over messages sent or received via social media, which led to Hodge picking up the gun and shooting her boyfriend twice.

Hodge was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. She is currently being held without bond.
