Fairview woman arrested after defrauding friends of $130k

UNION COUNTY, N.C. -- A Fairview woman has been arrested and charged after she defrauded friends and associates of more than $130,000 over the past several months, police say.

According to Union County Sheriff's Office, 61-year-old Nancy Kathryn Williams is accused of seeking large amounts of money from several different people, under the pretense of paying off loans on a property.

Multiple victims reported loaning Williams money. However, police say Williams wrote checks for repayment but they were bounced for insufficient funds.

Williams is currently booked at the Union County Jail with eight counts of obtaining property by false pretenses.

Her bond has not yet been set.
