Woman shot, killed behind Plaza Midwood business

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police is investigating a homicide in Charlotte's popular Plaza Midwood neighborhood.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is searching for a suspect who shot and killed a woman in Plaza Midwood early Saturday morning.

According to CMPD, officers responded to a report of shots being fired in the 1300 block of The Plaza near Central Avenue just after 2:45. 

When they arrived on the scene, officers found a woman lying in a driveway behind a business suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Medic pronounced the woman, identified as 26-year-old Katherine Memory Jones, dead on the scene. 

Jones' family released two photos to CMPD, in hopes that someone in the community will come forward with information that assists the investigation. 

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit Detective.
