CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- FBI agents launched a crackdown against the often violent street gang known as the United Blood Nation.
The arrests followed the return of a 160-plus page indictment that targeted 83 gang members in North and South Carolina, New York City, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
All of those arrested now face federal racketeering charges alleging they conspired with other gang members to commit various crimes.
"This indictment represents 6 dead, 9 attempted murders, robberies, guns and drug distribution," said U.S. Attorney Jill Westmoreland Rose.
The US Attorney added, "These gang members committed crimes to show they were in control of our communities."
John Strong, the Special Agent in Charge of the Charlotte FBI office said some 600 agents and local and state law enforcement officers were out at dawn making the arrests in one of the largest operations if its kind in recent memory.
Said Strong, "To anyone trying to fill the criminal void left by today's arrests, you should know we'll come after you next."
