Five teens and a 21-year-old charged after driving stolen car around town

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police charged six suspects Tuesday in connection with a stolen vehicle incident.

A man told officers that his vehicle had been stolen sometime during the night after he had parked it at his residence along the 6400 block of Monroe Road. He said the car was unlocked, but he still had the key in his possession.

Police used an electronic monitoring system and began tracking 18-year-old Emanuel Escobar. They found the stolen vehicle with six suspects in it in the Arboretum area. When the suspects saw officers, they drove off in the stolen car.

When the officers tracked the car to Wynyates Lane where they detained the six suspects on foot. The abandoned car was found shortly after on the 9700 block of Happy Valley Drive.

Keiondre Henderson, 16, Elias Cruz Octaviano, 17, Darnell Alcala, 26, Emanuel Escobar, 18, Rony Portillo, 21 and a 15-year-old suspect were charged with possession of a stolen vehicle. 

Escobar, Henderson and the 15-year-old juvenile were additionally charged with possession of alcohol by a minor.
