CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Officers in Charlotte's Freedom Division say over the past couple of months they have noticed a spike in diesel fuel thefts.
On Tuesday night, Vice Officers made an arrest in one of the cases. Mickell Frazier, 30, was charged with larceny by employee.
He was allegedly caught with 275 gallons of jet fuel at storage unit off Wilkinson Boulevard. Jet fuel supposedly burns cleaner in diesel engines than diesel fuel.
One of the companies plagued by thefts in recent months is United Brokerage, which is located in the Steele Creek Division off Township Road.
"Well, you're working as hard as you can to save every penny, then somebody comes and snatches 200 gallons of diesel fuel at $4.15 a gallon-- $1000 is gone," said Manager Charles Atkinson.
Frazier's case is not connected to United, but Atkinson is thankful for any arrest that police can make.
"We've probably had five or six thousand stolen in the last five or six months," said Atkinson.
The manager says they tried locking gas caps and anti siphoning devices, but nothing has worked.
"I'd love to get paid back for what got stolen, and they should be punished; somebody should serve some time."
