Iredell deputies seize $1M worth of cocaine during traffic stop

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. – Deputies in Iredell County arrested a New York woman who was found to be in possession of over $1 million worth of cocaine during a traffic stop.

According to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, deputies conducted a traffic stop of a Toyota Rav 4 along I-77 north on Monday. Investigators say the driver, identified as Sherrie Shawnte Reed, 37, of Upper Rochester, New York, told deputies that she had been in Florida and was traveling to another state. She told police that the car was a rental, but was unable to provide documentation for that claim, police say.

Deputies then saw a jacket inside the car containing a large amount of money. When asked about the items in her car, police say that Reed was evasive with her answers. Investigators say that deputies then saw several vacuum-sealed blocks which were believed to be cocaine underneath the rear seat.

Reed was taken into custody for questioning and it was discovered that she had a fugitive warrant for her arrest in Florida for theft. In all, police seized 11 pounds of cocaine for $1.25 million and over $1,700 in cash from the vehicle.

Reed was charged with felony trafficking of cocaine by possession and placed under a $250,000 bond.

Deputies say that Reed has a criminal history in New York for multiple felony convictions.
