Jury returns not guilty verdict in homicide trial

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A Mecklenburg County Jury found a Charlotte man not guilty in the death of a 21-year-old man.

Monte Gay, 21, was found with a gunshot wound at the intersection of Farm Pond Lane and Albemarle Road in January 2013. He was pronounced deceased upon his arrival at CMC Main.

Two suspects were arrested in Gay's fatal shooting: Terrence Parker and Brenton Samuels.

The Mecklenburg County District Attorney says Parker pled guilty to second-degree murder, felony breaking and entering, felony larceny after breaking and entering and being a habitual breaking or entering status offender. He was sentenced to serve no less than 221 months in prison.

Samuels was found not guilty of first-degree murder by a jury in Gay's death on Wednesday.
