Man accused of stalking mom, daughter in Target won't face charges

Police are on the lookout for a man accused of following around a mom and her young daughter at a Target and a Dick's Sporting Goods.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. – A man accused of stalking a mom and daughter through a Mooresville Target and Dick’s Sporting Goods will not face charges, police said.

According to Mooresville Police, the woman reported the incident to investigators on April 4. The woman told police that a man followed her and her daughter around two stores in a suspicious manner. The woman told police that the man grabbed her daughter by the arm inside Target.

Police Chief Damon Williams said after reviewing surveillance video from the retailer, there is “no evidence to substantiate any charges.” Williams went on to say that there was an encounter between the man and the child.

“A physical encounter with the child did occur when she rounded the corner after coming out of the ladies’ restroom and the visually impaired male was approaching the same area to enter the men’s restroom. There was contact made when they bumped into each other and the male proceeded to check to make sure the girl was okay," Williams said.

Police say the daughter and mother responded appropriately based on their concerns with the unknown man.
