Man caught stealing needles, syringes from Rock Hill hospital, police say

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Police in Rock Hill arrested a man Thursday after he allegedly stole syringe tubes and needles from Piedmont Medical Center.

According to Rock Hill Police, officers were dispatched to the hospital around 4:30 Thursday morning in reference to a patient acting disorderly. When officers arrived, a security officer told them the patient, identified as 30-year-old Adam Andrew Catoe, had stolen medical supplies and was acting disorderly with staff members.

A nurse told police Catoe left his room and went to the patient lab and was searching for drugs and supplies. Hospital staff caught Catoe while he was looking through a medical fridge in the lab, police said. Police said that Catoe then became extremely loud and starting cursing at staff members before officers arrived at the hospital.

Officers recovered three syringe tubes and two needles from Catoe’s pants pocket and employees confirmed they belonged to the hospital. Catoe admitted to officers that he stole the items from a medical supply cabinet.

He was charged with petty larceny and public disorderly conduct.
