Man in prison faces new charges for allegedly sexually assaulting young family member

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. -- A man already in prison for statutory rape is facing new charges alleging that he sexually assaulted and raped a 10-year-old for three years.

Iredell County Special Victim's Unit began investigating a sexual assault report in September.

The interviewing the victim, she told police that her family member, 53-year-old Richard Todd Floyd, had sexually assaulted her when she was 10-years-old and continued to do so for three years.

Police continued their investigation and eventually obtained warrants for Floyd who is currently serving 16 years in North Carolina's Department of Corrections for statutory rape and sex offense on an unrelated case that he was convicted of in Iredell County in March 2013.

In regards to this most recent case, Floyd has been charged with first degree sex offense, five counts of rape of a child and two counts of indecent liberties with a child.
