Man killed in Maiden house fire

Fire officials are investigating after a man was killed in a house fire in Maiden Sunday night.

MAIDEN, N.C. – Officials in Catawba County are investigating after a man was killed in what investigators called a "quickly moving" house fire Sunday night.

According to the Catawba County Fire Marshal's Office, several people called to report a fire on Gilly Road around 11 p.m. Family members at the scene told NBC Charlotte that the victim was a man in his 50s that used a wheelchair. Two other people lived at the home with the victim, but he was the only person home during the fire, family members said.

Fire officials said the house is a total loss after suffering heavy smoke and fire damage during the blaze.
