Man running from police hit by car on I-77

Police say a man with multiple warrants out for his arrest attempted to run from officers on I-77 Tuesday night when he was hit by a car.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The northbound lanes of Interstate 77 in southwest Charlotte were shut down for several hours Tuesday night after a person running from police was hit by a car, officials say.

According to CMPD, officers in the Steele Creek division were attempted to apprehend 55-year-old Ronald Ealey at around 10 o’clock. Police say that officers spotted Ealey near the intersection of Nations Ford Road and Red Roof Drive, but ran into the woods before he could be arrested.

Officers set up a perimeter around the area and Ealey attempted to escape by crossing the highway. He was hit by a vehicle and taken to CMC with injuries that aren’t life-threatening.

CMPD says that Ealey had four outstanding warrants for his arrest.
