New child sex charge filed against Boy Scouts leader

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. -- A teacher and Boy Scouts leader accused of sex crimes against children has new charge to face.

James Paul Barringer, 51, who worked at China Grove Middle School, is facing an additional count of indecent liberties with a child, bringing the total count to seven, after the Rowan County Sheriff's Office says an additional victim came forward following his initital arrest last week.

The new victim alleges they were inappropriately touched by Barringer during an overnight church activity in 1995.

The initial charges against Barringer were filed after authorities received reports of inappropriate sexual activity over the last two years involving more than one pre-teen-aged victim.

Barringer's bond was set Thursday at $25,000.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with more information should call 704-216-8739.
