BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. – Officials in South Carolina confirmed that a body found Sunday morning in a remote area are of Marlboro County has been identified as 8-year-old Iyana Lowery.
According to NBC affiliate WMBF, investigators say the body was identified through DNA records and the Marlboro County coroner has ruled the child’s death as a homicide.The young girl had been missing since May 5, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and local authorities.
The Marlboro County Sheriff’s Department offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of Lowery. She went missing following the stabbing death of her mother, police say. Police have filed additional charges of murder and armed robbery against Jejauncey Fernando Harrington, 32, of Bennettsville, S.C. He was previously charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in connection with the death of Ella Lowery.
