Police: Man steals vehicle from car lot, leads police chase

LENOIR, N.C. -- Police tracking a car theft suspect caught the man following a foot pursuit through Caldwell County.

A white 1987 Toyota Supra was reported missing from the Mountaineer Motors lot on Morganton Boulevard in Lenoir last month.

Friday morning, officers noticed a Toyota Supra that had been spray painted black sitting at the intersection of Civic Court and Fairview Drive. Officers attempted to pull over the vehicle but they say David Lee Gross fled.

A pursuit began but police ended it once reaching city limits. The Caldwell County Sheriff's Office and North Carolina Highway Patrol stepped in to assist. Troopers deployed stop sticks near Castle Bridge.

Police say Gross then ran from the vehicle. He was arrested shorting after and given a $100,000 bond.

Gross, 25, is accused of felony eluding charge and more than 10 misdemeanors. He will also be indicted for felony auto larceny and possession of stolen goods.
