Teen accused of uptown rape, robbery

A 19-year-old is facing several felony charges after sexually assaulting two individuals early Thursday morning.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Police are investigating after a couple says they were robbed and sexually assaulted in uptown early Thursday morning.

According to a police report filed with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, the victims were walking in the 200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard near the NASCAR Hall of Fame and Charlotte Convention Center when the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m.

Investigators say that the victims told officers they were confronted by the suspect with a handgun. Police say the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Tevin Quayshawn Williams, forced the couple into a nearby alleyway. The male victim was then bound while the female was sexually assaulted, according to CMPD.

Police say that Williams took a phone and wallet, as well as both victims' clothing before running from the scene.

CMPD officers began to circle the area and located Williams just before 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of Trade and Tryon streets. He was charged with two counts of first-degree rape, three counts of first-degree sex offense, two counts of first-degree kidnapping, two counts of armed robbery, and possession of a stolen firearm.

Captain Dave Johnson with CMPD said investigators are working to determine if Wiliams stole the firearm, which was reported stolen recently, or if he purchased the weapon.
