CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A 73-year-old man has been taken into custody after one person was shot while trying to repossess a car in southwest Charlotte early Thursday morning.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Larry Dabbs went to a house off of Barfield Drive to repo a car around 3:20 a.m. and was able to get the car on the tow truck.
Two men came out of the house, chased and shot at the man down Billy Graham Parkway toward SouthPark Mall, where the chase eventually came to an end, police said.
Navoid Russell, 73, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and discharge of a weapon. The second suspect, Russell's grandson, was not charged.
During the chase, the man lost the car off of his tow truck and Russell shot him, police said. Dabbs suffered a gunshot wound to the neck and was taken to Carolinas Medical Center.
Russell is being held on a $75,000 secured bond.
