Registered sex offender arrested for coaching minor league football team

MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- A 33-year-old sex offender was arrested Monday after police discovered he was coaching a youth football team.

According to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office, 33-year-old Kevin Lamar Concepcion was registered as a sex offender for a 2003 conviction in New York. Concepcion registered in Iredell County in May 2015.

After receiving a tip, Deputy Craig Bess found that Concepcion was a coach at the Mooresville Hornets Midget Football Team.

The football commission and Concepcion had previously been made aware that he was not eligible by law to be a coach for a team of children under the age of 18.

Concepcion surrendered himself to Iredell County Deputies and was given a $5000 bond.

Police say Concepcion has prior criminal history including a 2005 offense of possession of a loaded weapon and a 2013 conviction in Ohio for trafficking drugs.
