Six charged in connection with accidental shooting of teen

ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. – Six people were arrested in connection with a 15-year-old boy accidentally shooting himself in Alexander County Wednesday.

According to the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office, 911 officials responded to a reported shooting on Zeb Watts Road around 4 a.m. The caller told officials that a 15-year-old shot himself.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they found the teen suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the abdomen area. He was taken to a Hickory hospital and underwent surgery.

Witnesses told police that the victim and other teenagers had three firearms laying on a swivel stool and that the victim grabbed a handgun, causing it to discharge.

Connie Mack Brown, 68, of Taylorsville, was charged with one count of misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Sharon Melinda Brown, 63, of Taylorsville, was also charged with one count of misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Andrew John Brown, 17, was charged with simple possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. Juan Luis Gonzalez Sanchez, 17, was also charged with simple possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

Deputies also arrested Cody Mack Barnes, 20, and 22-year-old Garrett Whisnant with possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
