Suspect shoots man during attempted robbery

Police say one man was shot in the arm and the leg and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A man is recovering from his injuries Thursday after police say he was shot while someone tried to rob him.

It happened just off of South Boulevard on Melbourne Court in Sedgefield around 3 a.m. Police say one man was shot in the arm and the leg and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. They say the altercation took place outside by the front door, which had shattered glass near it Thursday morning.

At the crime scene, NBC Charlotte spoke off-camera with a man here who told us he's been friends with the victim for 38 years. The man told us after this incident, he's decided to buy his own gun for self-defense.

Police tell us they're searching for at least one suspect, but they don't have a description for us at this time. It's still unclear whether or not the victim and suspect knew each other before the attempted robbery occurred.

The scene on Melbourne Court was clear around 6:15 a.m.
