Suspect stabbed after shooting man during home invasion, police say

Police in Statesville say a home invasion led to a shooting and stabbing overnight.

STATESVILLE, N.C. – Police in Statesville are investigating after two people were injured during a home invasion early Monday. 

According to Statesville Police, officers were dispatched to a home on North Oakland Avenue around 1:30 a.m. in reference to a home invasion and shooting.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound, as well as another man suffering from stab wounds. Investigators said three suspects forcibly entered the home through the front door before one of them opened fire. Police said a resident of the home was shot during the incident.

Detectives said the person that was shot and another family member then attempted to defend themselves against the alleged intruders. During the struggle, investigators said one of the suspects was stabbed. The other two suspects ran from the home and are on the loose, police said.

A neighbor told NBC Charlotte that a father and son live in the home that was invaded. Family members said the son was injured during the incident. 

Iredell County EMS took both the victim and suspect to the hospital and are currently in surgery, according to police.
