A local teacher on the defense after he was accused of inappropriately touching multiple students.

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. -- An Iredell-Statesville Schools teacher is accused of touching students inappropriately, according to Iredell County Sheriff's Office.

Fifty-seven-year-old Neil Krasnigor was charged with seven counts of indecent liberties with a minor and one count of assault on a female.

Krasnigor was a math teacher at Mt. Mourne Elementary School.

Krasnigor was arrested on May 3 by Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office, according to deputies. He was issued a $100,000 secured bond.

Katie Cornetto, attorney for the state school board, says leaders have been pushing for more help investigating teacher misconduct since 2010.

"As a parent and a taxpayer get a pit in my stomach when I think there might be anyone who would be in a classroom hurting kids," she says.

Krasnigor's attorney released the following statement, in regards to the allegations:

Mr. Krasnigor adamantly denies the charges. He has dedicated his career to excellence in education and is stunned by these allegations. We look forward to a trial as soon as we can get one.
