Teen shot outside southwest Charlotte gas station

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said a teen was injured after being shot at an southwest Charlotte gas station on Thursday afternoon.

Police said the shooting happened at the Exxon gas station and a 7-Eleven store at RiverGate Parkway and South Tryon Street.

An 18-year-old was shot in the stomach and was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Witnesses at the scene tell NBC Charlotte the victim was conscious when paramedics arrived.

Police charged Alfred Rivera-Padilla with robbery and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Police said the victim and suspect are known to one another. Detectives believe that there was an altercation that led to the shooting and this was not a random act of violence.

The gas pumps are surrounded by crime scene tape. There is shattered glass on the passenger's side window of the victim's car.
