Tega Cay rape suspect captured in Kansas

Police are searching for a man accused of sexually assaulting a teenager in Tega Cay.

TEGA CAY, S.C. – A man accused of sexually assaulting a teenager in Tega Cay was arrested in Kansas, police say.

According to Tega Cay Police, 25-year-old Marcus Alexander Center was captured after authorities in Olathe, Kansas received a tip of his whereabouts. He was wanted for second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Police say that Center sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl last week. Detectives say that the pair were not dating, but there was a strong mutual interest between the two, which led to the girl inviting Center to her home.

“They certainly knew each other for several months, it appears there was in interest in dating,” said a spokesperson with Tega Cay Police. “He stopped by her house in the afternoon time. My understanding is the parents were not home.”

One thing led to another, investigators say, and while the victim is able to legally consent at 17, police say she didn’t.

Detectives say the victim came forward with her mother just hours after the assault.
