CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have arrested a woman accused of skipping out on her hairdresser and then hitting her with her vehicle.
Police charged Champagne Williams, 22, with two counts of hit-and-run personal injury and theft. No other suspects are wanted.
The incident occurred Tuesday Night around 7 p.m. at Bignons located on North Tryon Street.
Naiday Nangui, 38, is at Carolina Medical Center recovering from her injuries; she has a broken arm and bruises about her face and body.
"My friend who called me said 'your wife got in a car accident and she's badly injured,' I was scared," said Blaise Nangui, her husband.
The couple has been married for 15 years and immigrated from the Ivory Coast several years ago. They are used to working hard for their money, so Blaise understands why his wife would try and stop the woman.
He says she caught up with the suspect before she could close her car door.
"My wife finish. She spend something like six hours to finish her hair."
Williams had supposedly agreed to the $180 price, only to tell Naiday she only had $160, and said she was waiting on a friend to bring the rest.
That friend never arrived. Soon afterward the woman allegedly tried to leave with Naiday in pursuit.
"When she went outside, she was close to the door and she backed up the car and she dragged my wife all over the road," said Mr. Nangui.
"She can go to the jail and she needs to go to the jail because what I think-- it's where she belongs. It's not smart, it's not really smart to do so."
Nangui is expected to spend the next three days in the hospital and will undergo surgery to repair her broken arm.
