Woman held on $1 million bond in murder-for-hire plot on husband

A Gaston County woman is behind bars after being charged with hiring a hitman to kill her husband.

GASTONIA, N.C. - A Gastonia woman will remain in jail under a $1 million secured bond after prosecutors accused of her offering to pay an individual thousands of dollars in cash to kill her husband.

Jessica Philbeck had her first court appearance Tuesday afternoon for the charge of felony solicitation to commit murder.

Prosecutors said Philbeck approached an individual and offered to pay them money to kill her husband, Thomas Pasour.

Investigators said the individual reported it to Gastonia Police who asked them to meet up with Philbeck again; this time wearing a wire.

Police said they captured both video and audio recordings of Philbeck offering to pay $20,000 in cash to have her husband killed.

A judge made no changes to Philbeck's bond during Tuesday's hearing as prosecutors argued Philbeck is both "a danger to the community" and a "flight risk".

Her attorney, Michael Neece, urged people to not rush to conclusions on this case.

"The one thing I want everybody to remember is that the accused always has the presumption of innocence," Neece said. "At this point in time, it's very early."

Philbeck's expected to be indicted by a grand jury in the coming weeks.
