CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- It doesn't take LaChone Harvey long to realize that this is not a normal weekend at Charlotte Douglas International airport.
"Last time I didn't see any dogs" She said as she walked toward the escalator to take her to the second level of the airport "and I never had to come down her first,"
Harvey and all passengers who rode via cab or by shuttle bus where dropped off on the ground level of the airport. If someone drove them to the airport, they were able to be dropped off outside on the second floor.
Just one the changes for one of the busiest airports in the nation.
Charlotte Douglas has gone through a number of renovations and addition in preparation for the DNC; including news signs instructing passengers where to go. There are also two groups of volunteers to assist travelers.
"I'm very proud of my city and about the chance to have the DNC here and I'm excited about our chance to host the DNC," said Bonita Hemphill who working for CMS.
Other temporary changes have also been made, such as moving the "Cell Phone Lot" to Wilkinson Blvd, on Saturday and Sunday , then switching it to another spot during the rest of the week for the Democratic National Convention.
Another visible sight is the presence of extra security, many with K-9s patrolling the area.
