CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show with Jon Stewart’ has selected its Charlotte location to tape shows during the Democratic National Convention.
Stewart and company will broadcast four shows inside ImaginOn at The Joe & Joan Martin Center from Tuesday, September 4 through Friday, September 7.
A Comedy Central staff of about 125 people will cover the DNC for the fourth time in the show’s history.
"We are incredibly excited to spend a week in the beautiful city of Charlotte," said the show's executive producer, Rory Albanese, in a statement. "And to the good people of North Carolina, for their southern hospitality in hosting 125 smart-aleck New Yorkers, we offer in advance our thanks, but most of all, our apologies. Honestly, we didn’t mean to break that, and we promise we’ll pay for it."
The host site is a partnership between the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte. The rental will cost Comedy Central $100,000 and ImaginOn has agreed to release the space from August 28 to September 8.
Hundreds of free tickets for the Charlotte tapings were snapped up in less than an hour late Monday morning.
