CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren, a favorite of liberal Democrats and a leading critic of Wall Street abuses, has been tapped to give a prime-time speech at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.
On Wednesday Sept. 5, she will speak just before President Bill Clinton in uptown’s Time Warner Cable Arena.
Some pundits and newspapers had predicted that Warren would be chosen to give the convention’s keynote address, but a spokeswoman with the Democratic National Convention Committee said that the keynoter is still to be announced.
Still, Warren’s appearance as one of the convention’s headliners will give her national exposure as she attempts to unseat U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., who succeeded the late Sen. Ted Kennedy – a liberal Democratic icon.
A Harvard Law School professor, Warren was a former Obama aide who conceived of and established the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. She’s expected to talk in her convention speech about how Republican policies “broke” the economy and hurt middle-class families.
