CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The NFL season opener is getting pushed back to avoid any conflict with President Obama's speech at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.

The NFL announced Tuesday afternoon the season opener will be held on Wednesday, September 5 instead of a traditional Thursday night start.  President Obama is expected to speak at Bank of America Stadium on Thursday night during the DNC.

The New York Giants will host the Wednesday game that will air at 8:30 p.m. on NBC.
