CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The 6,000 delegates visiting Charlotte during the DNC will get their first real taste of the city at the 12 welcome parties.
NewsChannel 36 received a sneak peek at one of the smaller venues that oozes southern charm.
There is much work to be done at the Wadsworth estate. Workers are busy sprucing up the place, trimming bushes, painting the porch and cleaning windows.
Nestled in the heart of historic Wesley Heights neighborhood, owner Shirley Fulton is hoping her 400 houseguests will enjoy their welcome to the south.
“I think it’s going to be a lot of genteel southern hospitality because we want to show them Charlotte and North Carolina in general,” Fulton said.
The estate is known for its 25-foot-long front porch and the rocking chairs that fill it. Inside, Fulton herself handpicked the decor.
“People know that they’re stepping back in time and if you look around at the furnishing, there is almost nothing modern so (folks) get that feel of southern charm.”
Guests will also get a taste of southern beer and wine. Three bars will be fully stocked.
“I hope they will walk away saying ‘Wow, great time in a great setting, friendly as southerners tend to be.”
