ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. -- Authorities say speed is to blame in a fatal accident Sunday morning in Rowan County.
Around 9 a.m., North Carolina Highway Patrol responded to a single vehicle accident on Goodnight Road.
Officials say the driver of the vehicle exceeded the posted speed limit and struck a tree.
The 14-year-old passenger, a Hispanic boy, died on the scene.
Charges are pending, authorities say.
NC Highway Patrol is investigating.
