LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. -- A Lancaster County man is charged with killing a 5-year-old child.

Deputies responded around 12:40 a.m. Tuesday to a home on Craig Farm Road and found the child unresponsive in the bathroom.

Suspect Phillip Gleason, who lives at the home, was the only person at the home.

The 5-year-old was transported to a nearby hospital but died a short time later.

"During the course of the investigation officials located suspicious injuries to the child," said Sheriff Barry S. Faile in a statement.

An autopsy was performed Tuesday morning, and officials say the child died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Gleason is behind bars and awaits a bond hearing.
