CHINA GROVE, N.C. -- Through the course of their investigation, authorities determined there is no foul play in the death of a Charlotte man whose body was found burning near an elementary school Friday night in China Grove.

Investigators with the Rowan County Sheriff's Office say 39-year-old Erasmo Garcia Jimenez suffered stab wounds they say were self inflicted.

Just after 8 p.m. on Friday a passing motorist noticed and reported a brush fire at an elementary school in the 150 block of Ed Deal Road in China Grove.

The Atwell Fire Department responded to Millbridge Elementary School where they found the burned body of 39-year-old Erasmo Garcia Jimenez close to the treeline near the school.

Investigators with the Rowan County Sheriff's Office were able to determine the man's identity and notify next of kin.

Based on evidence collected at the scene, interviews with witnesses and family members and reviews of text and voice messages, the Rowan County Sheriff's Office says there does not appear to be foul play in Jimenez' death, but rather the stab wounds were self inflicted.

Jimenez' body was sent to the Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy; the results have not yet been returned.
