CHERRYVILLE, N.C. – Neighbors who live near 19-year-old Robert Weaver did not know much about him until Tuesday night when word started to spread that he'd been charged with raping a 13-year-old girl that he met on Facebook.

"This incident happened, as far as we know, it only happened one time. We don't know of any other victims in this case," said Lt. Tim Johnson of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators told NBC Charlotte that Weaver met the young girl in person after chatting with her on Facebook and then brought her to his home in Cherryville where they said the rape happened.

When investigators looked at Weaver's Facebook page they said they found he had 1,200 friends -- many of them young teen girls.

According to the sheriff's office, no force was used and the relations with the girl were consensual. However, Weaver was charged because a 13-year-old cannot legally give consent.

At Weaver's house, no one appeared to be home Tuesday night.

There was "No Trespassing" sign posted next to the door and two dogs in an outdoor pen barked at anyone approaching.

Vernon Smith is the neighbor who lives directly across the street.

"I recognize them and speak to them coming in and out of the driveway. But as far as knowing anything about him, I don't," Smith said.

Weaver has been released on a bond of nearly $10,000 pending his next appearance in court.
