MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- On Tuesday, detectives charged a former Mooresville elementary teacher with 97 counts of taking indecent liberties with children, in addition to the 110 counts he already faced.

In February, 65-year-old John Thomas Patterson, a former fourth grade teacher at Mount Mourne Elementary School, was charged with 14 counts of the same charge in connection with allegations that he inappropriately touched four to five male students in the mid to late 80s.

The Iredell County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into Patterson in October of last year.

Authorities say multiple victims and witnesses came forward after Patterson's initial arrest.

On February 28, Iredell County Sheriff's Office Detectives charged Patterson with another 96 counts of taking indecent liberties with children and one count of first degree sexual offense. He was placed under an additional $350,000 bond on the new charges. A grand jury has indicted Patterson on those 97 counts and the first 14.

On Tuesday, officials charged Patterson with another 97 counts of taking indecent liberties with children. An additional $250,000 bond was issued for the new charges.

Patterson is now facing a total of 207 counts of indecent liberties with children and one count of first degree sex offense.

Officials say the charges are for crimes against 14 different individuals who were students of Patterson's.

Patterson served the school district for 17 years. He resigned in 1987.

His bonds total $700,000.
