CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Hundreds of people are waiting in line this morning to get free dental care. A 36-hour clinic set up at the Charlotte Convention Center in uptown.
The North Carolina Dental Society is hosting the free dental clinic. Doors opened at 6 a.m.
The clinic is for folks who have a financial need or don't have any other options.
Some people have been in line since midnight. The clinic is first come first served for anyone over the age of 18 who has no access to dental care. Organizers expect to serve about 2,000 patients.
The clinic will operate nearly 100 chairs around the clock for 36 hours straight. Patients can have cavities filled, teeth cleaned, extractions and in some cases partial dentures created.
The clinic opened at the Convention Center at 6 a.m. and it runs until 6 p.m. on Saturday.
More than 800 dental professionals and volunteers are on hand to treat all of the patients.
