MOORESVILLE, N.C. – A family is left without a home, after a Sunday morning fire.

The fire stated at a house on West Moore Avenue around midnight in Mooresville. Initial reports suggested that the family was trapped inside the home.

“When we got here it was up in flames,” said Carl Shay who lives in the house with his wife, Samantha, and 16-year-old son Ethan.

“I got here and the fire trucks were out here.”

The Shays were not home at the time of the fire.  Samantha had just picked Carl up from work and they heard the sounds of fire trucks as they got closer to their house.

“I had no idea it was my house.” Carl said.

When Mooresville Fire and Rescue arrived, they reported heavy fire and smoke visible from the rear of the house.

“We were at my parents house, lucky for us my son wasn’t home asleep,” said Samantha.

The Mooresville Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire. No one was hurt.

The Red Cross is helping the Shays who lost most of their belongings, the family said they were renting and did not have insurance.
