ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Friday morning, school officials were notified by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department that the assistant principal at Sullivan Middle School has been charged with three counts of sexual exploitation of a child.
Darin Pearson, 32, was arrested Friday morning following an investigation by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
CMPD says the department received information from the Metro Nashville Police Department's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force regarding Pearson. They say the information indicated Pearson was involved in trading child pornography photos.
CMPD Youth and Cyber Crimes Detectives and SBI agents conducted a search of Pearson's residence and seized electronic documents that connected Pearson to child pornography, officials say.
Pearson most recently served as the assistant principal at Sullivan Middle School, and served the school as a teacher from 2002 to 2007, and was once named teacher of the year. He also worked as a substitute teacher before becoming employed full time with the district.
Rock Hill school officials met with the Rock Hill Police Department Friday morning, and say they will cooperate fully in the investigation.
Rock Hill Police say Pearson has never been investigated in the past.
Pearson is on administrative leave. He's being transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office, where he will remain in custody.
Police say there's no indication any assaults on children have taken in place in Charlotte.
